Richie Wellens will reportedly be named permanent manager of Oldham Athletic on a two-year contract.

Oldham Athletic are reportedly expected to announce the appointment of Richie Wellens as permanent manager later today.

The 37-year-old, who began his playing career at Manchester United, has been in temporary charge since the sacking of John Sheridan on September 25.

Wellens has overseen the League One club securing four wins in five matches, and according to the Daily Mail, the board are ready to put faith in the former midfielder.

United legend Paul Scholes, who is a lifelong Oldham fan, was reportedly interviewed for the job, but it is believed that he encouraged the hierarchy to give the reins to Wellens.

Reports have claimed that the coach has penned a two-year contract.
