Newcastle are reportedly considering an approach for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers after a poor start to the new Premier League campaign.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly emerged as a potential managerial target for Newcastle United.

Rafael Benitez is currently in charge of the Magpies and is backed by the club's supporters, but a poor start to the new Premier League campaign has left the Magpies in the relegation zone.

The Spaniard also has less than a year remaining on his contract at St James' Park, and there is no certainty that the 58-year-old would entertain penning fresh terms at this time.

According to The Mirror, each situation has led to Newcastle considering a replacement for Benitez and that could lead to an approach being made for Rodgers.

Celtic have also endured a difficult start to the season, and the Scottish giants sit three points adrift of leaders Hearts in the top-flight standings.

The Northern Irishman is expected to look for a return south of the border at some stage in his career, and Newcastle could possibly give Rodgers a route back to the Premier League.
