Three Championship clubs are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United striker Alex Gilliead in the January transfer window.

Sunderland, Millwall and Hull City are the clubs tracking the forward, with all three sending scouts to watch the player in action in recent weeks.

Gilliead is currently on loan at League One side Bradford City but, according to the Newcastle Chronicle, is believed to be keen on a move to the Championship.

The report also says that, should Sunderland boss Chris Coleman be serious on a move for the wide man, the Welshman could opt for a loan move due to the Black Cats' limited transfer funds.

21-year-old Gilliead, whose loan deal with the Bantams ends in January, has progressed well at the club and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is keen for the youngster to gain experience elsewhere before fitting into the Newcastle fold.
