Jim Bentley says sorry to Morecambe fans

Manager Jim Bentley concedes that Morecambe fans have every right to be angered by the team's 4-2 defeat at the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has issued an apology to the club's supporters in the wake of last night's 4-2 FA Cup replay defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge.

It seemed that the home side were going to ease into the second round of the competition when Tom Barkhuizen and Aaron Wildig both found the back of the net within the opening seven minutes at the Globe Arena.

However, the visiting Daggers, who sit bottom of League Two, hit back on four occasions to knock out Bentley's side.

"I could go as far as saying I can understand them calling for my head after that, because it was that poor," he told BBC Sport.

"They got back to 2-1 and then after that I thought we lacked fight, lacked leadership. All I can do is apologise to the fans. What an absolute disaster."

The 39-year-old has been in charge of the Shrimps since 2011.
