Newcastle United consider a move for Manchester United attacker Juan Mata, according to a report.

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United attacker Juan Mata.

Mata will see his current deal with United expire at the end of next month.

The 31-year-old is widely expected to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer, and Barcelona have been credited with an interest in the experienced attacker.

However, according to The Sun, Newcastle will move for the Spaniard if Rafael Benitez, whose own future continues to be the subject of speculation, stays on as head coach.

Mata previously played under Benitez when the 59-year-old was in charge of Chelsea.

The Spaniard - also linked with Atletico Madrid - contributed six goals and four assists in 32 appearances for United during the 2018-19 campaign.
