Timothy Fosu-Mensah has claimed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho gives youth players a chance, contrary to the common belief that he does not like playing youngsters.

The 19-year-old Dutchman made his Red Devils debut in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in February 2016 and went on to make eight Premier League appearances under Louis van Gaal.

Fosu-Mensah only played four times in the league last season, but points to the fact that no United player made more overall appearances than Marcus Rashford's 53 as evidence of Mourinho's willingness to give youth an opportunity.

"Marcus played the most games last season so I think what they say about him is not true. He gives youth a chance," Fosu-Mensah told Sky Sports News. "I think as a young player you have to grab the chance with both hands."

Fosu-Mensah is currently on United's pre-season tour of the United States and has featured in all three games so far against Los Angeles Galaxy, Real Salt Lake and Manchester City.
