Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho insists that his side are focused on their next game despite seeing their winless run extend to five matches.

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has played down the club's recent run of form and urged his side to continue focusing on the next game.

Pep Guardiola's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Iheanacho coming off the bench to net a second-half equaliser for the home side.

City's status as title favourites has been questioned during what is now a five-game winless streak in all competitions, but Iheanacho insists that they are solely looking at the next game.

"Teams drop points in the Premier League, we dropped points as well. That is a football game, you don't know what is going to happen when you play," he told reporters.

"Everyone expects high for our team but we are human beings as well. We are footballers, we can make mistakes and we can lose games. We just keep moving, keep our heads straight and focus on the next games.

"It wasn't our best but I still think we played well and deserved to win. But it is a game of football. We can lose, win or draw because the opponents are good players as well."

City will look to return to winning ways against local rivals Manchester United when they face each other in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich's Spanish head coach Pep Guardiola watch proceedings during the German Cup DFB Pokal second round football match between VfL Wolfsburg vs FCB Bayern Munich in Wolfsburg, on October 27, 2015.
