Dominika Cibulkova keeps alive her hopes of reaching the final four at the WTA Finals by beating Simona Halep in straight sets in Singapore.

Dominika Cibulkova remains in contention for a spot in the final four of the WTA Finals in Singapore after battling through a round-robin clash against Simona Halep.

The 27-year-old will reach the semi-finals if Angelique Kerber defeats Madison Keys in straight sets later today, but it is the end of the road for Halep.

It took Cibulkova one hour and 50 minutes to claim a 6-3 7-6(5) triumph, and it was a quick start from the Slovakian as she went an early break up in the first set.

Cibulkova's break point was the only one created in the opening set, but it was a frantic second set with both players losing serve three times.

Halep came close to taking advantage, but Cibulkova saved two break points before forcing a tie-break, which she sealed 7-5 to keep her campaign alive.
