Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola bemoans another defensive mistake after his side were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton in Sunday's match at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has slammed his side for making yet more defensive mistakes after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton.

The Citizens, whose problems at the back led to a 4-0 defeat at Barcelona in midweek, were punished again on Sunday after John Stones's wayward backpass gifted Nathan Redmond a 27th-minute opener.

Kelechi Iheanacho's strike salvaged a point for the hosts at the Etihad Stadium, but Guardiola pledged to cut out the individual errors that are proving costly for them.

"The first half was difficult and again we make a mistake," Guardiola told Sky Sports News. "Afterwards it's tough, but I'm very happy with how we did in the second half.

"Once again it's not difficult but they are human beings and it happens. We spoke about it after the last game to try and avoid it and we'll repeat that again.

"It's difficult at this level and we have to be more clinical in this way."

Next up for Man City is a clash with local rivals Manchester United in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
