Argentina reportedly identify Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as their number-one choice to replace Jorge Sampaoli after the nation's poor showing at the World Cup.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly emerged as a managerial target for Argentina.

Last month, Argentina underperformed at the World Cup, with the South American nation edging through the group stages before losing to France in the last 16.

Current coach Jorge Sampaoli is expected to part ways with the team in the near future, and according to AS, the Argentine Football Association has set their sights on Guardiola.

The report claims that the AFA is prepared to hand Guardiola a four-year contract worth £12m per year, which would last until the end of the 2022 World Cup.

Guardiola has only recently penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, but the Spaniard has previously indicated that he wants to manage a national team at some stage of his career.
