Six most memorable moments in Premier League history

Since the English Premier League began in 1992, the championship has provided plenty of thrilling, dramatic, and unpredictable moments. Here are six of the most memorable Premiership moments in the league's history.

A Pizza the Action
This may not be as iconic as some of the Premiership's most memorable on-pitch moments, but off the pitch, it has gone down in history, if only for its farcical nature. After Manchester United managed to beat Arsenal 2-0 after a tumultuous game in 2004, which ended the Gunners' unbeaten run over 49 matches, an Arsenal player showed his frustration by hitting Alex Ferguson with a slice of pizza he had thrown. Watching melted cheese and dough slipping down Fergie's face and rolling down the back of his black suit was an uncomfortable and funny moment not easily forgotten.

That Cantona Kick
Football fans might not be proud to have this moment as one of the most memorable in Premier League history, but even non-football fans remember Eric Cantona losing the plot in January 1995. After he had received a red card for kicking a Crystal Palace player, Cantona angrily strolled off the pitch. But when a Selhurst Park fan began shouting abuse at the Frenchman, Cantona immediately ran into the crowd and launched a flying Kung Fu-like kick at the fan. It became one of the most memorable and shocking moments in Premiership history. As for Cantona, he received a nine-month ban after his outrageous behaviour.

Thierry Henry Saves the Day
After Arsenal had been knocked out of the Champions League and the FA Cup in the 2003/2004 season, it looked like the club might also not win the Premier League title when Liverpool took the lead at Highbury 2-1. But Arsenal player Thierry Henry was determined not to see his club beaten. He somehow managed to score a hat-trick to win the game and Arsenal's third Premier League title; the club's thirteenth top league English title.

One Kick Catapults Beckham to Stardom
On the opening day of the 1996/1997 season, few people knew the name of David Beckham. But with one audacious kick, the 21-year-old became an instant star. Playing against Wimbledon, the young Manchester United player was just inside United's half when he noticed that Wimbledon's goalkeeper Neil Sullivan was off his line. The plucky right-wing player decided to have a go at scoring a goal, and to everyone's amazement, Beckham managed to pull it off. The shot has gone down in history as one of the most iconic strikes in the Premier League, and it shot Beckham to fame.

The Underdogs Win the Premiership
When Leicester City began its 2015/2016 season, The Foxes should have been called The Underdogs. The club had narrowly escaped being relegated in the previous season. One of the most remarkable games of the season was when Leicester gained a stunning 3-1 victory over Manchester City in January. But out of all of Leicester's league games, they only lost three, enabling them to win the top English league title for the first time in their 132-year history.

Sergio Aguero Seals a Championship Win with Only Seconds to Spare
Over the course of the Premiership, there have been better goals, but not a single one was as timely and essential as Sergio Aguero's goal in the very last seconds of a game against QPR on the last day of the season. As Manchester United secured a win against Sunderland in 2012, the club looked set to win its 13th Premier League title. But the Red Devil's rivals Manchester City were still playing. When Dzeko scored a stoppage-time equalizer, United fans became a little nervous. However, United was still two points clear. Then, the miraculous happened. With just seconds left on the clock, Aguero scored, giving City a 3-2 win over QPR. But most importantly, Aguero's goal meant City won the championship for the first time in 44 years.
