Talks between Everton and Swansea City over Gylfi Sigurdsson are reported to have broken down but are not off.

Talks between Everton and Swansea City over Gylfi Sigurdsson have broken down, according to a report.

The Iceland international, who scored nine goals and set up 13 more in 38 Premier League appearances last season, has long been rumoured to be a key target for the Toffees.

According to Sky Sports News, which has quoted an anonymous source, a verbal agreement was reached between the two clubs, only for Everton to withdraw the offer 48 hours later and refer back to a previous offer, understood to be around £40m.

The report goes on to quote another source who has claimed that the deal is by no means off and that the two clubs are still trying to find a resolution, being less than £5m apart on a fee.

Sigurdsson joined Swansea from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014 and has made 131 appearances in all for the Welsh side, scoring 37 goals and assisting another 30.
