Week 25's final La Liga clash pitted Espanyol against Villarreal in Barcelona.
An open first period brought just the one goal with Moi Gomez handing Villarreal the lead after 36 minutes.
The away side doubled their lead in the early stages of the second period when Jeremy Perbet converted from close range.
Jhon Cordoba had one back for Espanyol after 78 minutes, but Sergio Garcia passed up the chance to level late on when his penalty was saved by Sergio Asenjo.

The home side have won their last two in the league, with that run of form moving them into 10th, just three points off the top seven. Villarreal, meanwhile, would move above Real Sociedad into fifth with victory this evening.
