Head coach Patrick Vieira maintains that Crystal Palace have much work ahead to reach their potential despite beating Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

Head coach Patrick Vieira has insisted that Crystal Palace "still have a long way to go" despite a comeback 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

The two teams went into the Premier League fixture at Selhurst Park separated by just one point in the standings, the visitors beginning the night in 17th position.

However, it was Wolves who took the lead in the first half after Hugo Bueno crossed for Adama Traore to power a head into the bottom corner at the back post.

Palace equalised within a minute of the restart through Eberechi Eze, before Wilfried Zaha rounded off a well-worked team move to clinically finish past Jose Sa from 12 yards.

Each of Palace's three wins this season have come after they had initially conceded the first goal, while the Eagles are now three matches unbeaten in the top flight.

Nevertheless, Vieira is keen to see further improvements from his side, particularly when it comes to taking their chances during the early stages of matches.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Vieira said: "We scored two goals against a really good side. The first half was an even game. Going 1-0 down was hard on us. We showed character and quality and won the game. I was happy with the attitude we showed.

"The tempo in the first half was good. We had more determination in the second half. We kept the tempo high and that allowed us to score the early goal that gave us confidence and belief. We put a lot of emphasis on having people inside the box. I'm really glad. Today was an important game for us. We managed to win and that's good.

"We need to try to score first, especially when we create chances. But we showed character. To perform in the Premier League this is part of the game, to show resilience and character. Nobody hid at 1-0 down. We can build something from that performance today.

"I think we are still far [from where they want to be]. We still have a long way to go. We have young players who need to learn the game. Everything wasn't perfect today. But we showed some good elements and can build on that."

Palace, who are now in 10th spot ahead of seven more games to be played up to and including Thursday night, are next in action when they face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
