Cesar Azpilicueta believes that Ross Barkley will grow into his role at Chelsea following a largely ineffective debut, and hopes to see more new recruits follow.

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has insisted that teammate Ross Barkley "seems on the right" path after making his debut from the bench in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The England international, a £15m arrival from Everton earlier this month, was given an hour at the Emirates Stadium after taking over from the injured Willian - his first competitive appearance in more than eight months.

Despite Barkley failing to make too much of an impact on the game, Azpilicueta is confident that the new addition will slowly grow into his role and is also hopeful of more arrivals before next Wednesday's deadline.

"Ross came with a great attitude, really trying to work hard to adapt to the team," he is quoted as saying by The Telegraph. "We know that he is coming back from a long injury and he has only played for the Under-23s but he came straight on without a warm-up and seems on the right path.

"He is coming from a seven-month injury and is with a new club and a new team. What I see in training is him working very hard to work with the team and I am sure he will be very important. Now in the next six or eight games we have the next rounds of the FA Cup, we have the Champions League and we have the Premier League. We have to keep pushing and we need everybody 120%.

"Every club in world in every transfer window tries to find the best solution for the team and I am sure we are working on it. Today we are disappointed and it hurts a lot. We missed the chance to win a trophy. We need to analyse and improve and on Sunday we can do better.

"We have another chance in the FA Cup to keep going and try to get that trophy. After any defeat, the next game you need to bounce back and show the answer from the team."

Roma pair Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri are on Chelsea's transfer radar, though a deal for the former appears to have hit a sticking point.
