AC Milan are reportedly considering ending their interest in Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and giving interim manager Gennaro Gattuso a contract extension.

AC Milan are reportedly considering ending their interest Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in favour of giving current boss Gennaro Gattuso a contract extension.

Milan are understood to be long-term admirers of Conte and were expected to approach the Italian once he left Stamford Bridge, having failed to tempt him away from West London last summer.

Regardless of where Chelsea finish this season, Conte could leave the club at the end of the campaign at the latest, although there has been speculation that defeat to West Bromwich Albion this evening would result in him being sacked before then.

However, the Evening Standard reports that Milan have been suitably impressed by Gattuso's time at the club that they are now considering offering the Italian an extended contract.

Gattuso's original deal at San Siro only lasts until the end of the season, but he has led the club to an eight-match unbeaten run and could now be rewarded with a new two-year contract.

Conte is still thought to be on the radar of a number of Europe's top clubs, though, with Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all credited with an interest.
