Claude Puel refuses to blame Kasper Schmeichel for Leicester City's FA Cup defeat against Chelsea and insists that his side were unlucky to lose.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has admitted to being "upset" after his side exited the FA Cup with a 2-1 extra-time defeat against Chelsea.

Jamie Vardy smashed the ball home from close range to cancel out Alvaro Morata's opener in an evenly-matched quarter-final tie at the King Power Stadium, before Pedro punished Kasper Schmeichel by getting to a lofted cross first for what proved to be the winner.

Puel was unwilling to blame his keeper for the last-eight loss, though, and says that Leicester were unlucky to crash out at the hands of last year's beaten finalists.

"I think since the beginning Kasper has been a fantastic goalkeeper," he told BBC Sport. "In goal there is always a mistake. but he has been fantastic. I can't say anything wrong about him - he's a fantastic keeper. We are unlucky today.

"I'm a bit upset at the moment because I think we deserved another result. They found a good clinical edge. Morata's goal was the only chance of the first half, it was harsh to concede just before half time. But we came back with more calm and more quality.

"I'm proud of my players because it was a game with a high level against a good team. We improved and we deserve another result."

Chelsea have gone on to win the FA Cup on each of the last three occasions in which they have defeated Leicester, most recently doing so in 2012.
