Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers backs his side to claim a back-to-back treble of trophies by winning the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell on Saturday.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has backed his side to claim a back-to-back treble of trophies by winning the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell on Saturday.

Should the Parkhead club claim victory in the final, they will become the first team in British football to complete the feat, following last season's successes.

Rodgers, who won the treble in his first season with Celtic, has said that he is confident that his players can write their own history for the club.

"Over the couple of seasons that we've been here I've been really pleased with seeing that growth and development in the high-pressure games," the manager told the Daily Mail. "It is a mindset that has changed. It doesn't guarantee that you are always going to win, but what it does is give you what we all want in life - a chance and an opportunity.

"There is an equal focus, but we did it last year, we won the treble. That always gives you confidence and gives you that level of control going into the game. It's a brilliant chance for us. I never say to the players: 'You've got to take this chance because it will be the only chance in your life.' Because part of me thinks: 'Do you not think you can do it again?'

"But there's no doubt there's an opportunity to write another chapter in the great history of the club. You think of the great history of Scottish football - in all the various eras and levels of players - and there's a reason why it's never been done. All you want is a chance and we have a chance."

Celtic finished nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and defeated Motherwell 2-0 in November to win the Scottish League Cup.
