Gordon wants European win to build momentum for Celtic

The Hoops face Kilmarnock in their next league game on Sunday.

Craig Gordon wants Celtic to carry their Europa League euphoria into Sunday's Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Kilmarnock.

The Hoops were struggling in their Group B opener against Norwegian side Rosenborg on Thursday night until substitute Leigh Griffiths popped up in the 87th minute with a dramatic headed winner to bring Parkhead to life and get the home side off to an encouraging start in their section.

The 35-year-old Scotland keeper wants to retain that feel-good factor for the journey to Rugby Park.

"Absolutely," he said. "That is exactly what we were talking about in the dressing room.

"That was a great start in this group phase for us and it is now up to us to take that forward into Sunday and try to get a win at Kilmarnock.

"It is always tough there, a change of surface as well so we have to recover over the next few days and we will prepare on a similar surface to try to get used to it and we will go there with a game plan and try to win it.

"It was probably not our best performance of the season (against Rosenborg) but we kept going, got a good goal at the end and deserved the three points.

"We created most of the chances in the game. I don't think we conceded a shot on target and to eventually get the win and the three points is a huge start for us."

Remarkably, it was Celtic's first-ever win in an opening group stage fixture, a statistic Gordon was happy to amend.

"We were made aware of that before the start," said the former Hearts and Sunderland keeper.

"It wasn't something that we knew during the week. We were made aware of that so glad to finally put that right and get a win.

"It looked like for long spells that may not be possible but we got there in the end and it is a great start. It is important to win the home games and we started well.

"It was a good feeling. The dressing room was very happy with that and hopefully we can use that to spur us on for the next few games."
