Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirms that he has removed midfielder Paul Pogba from his position as a second captain of the team.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he has stripped Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy.

Speculation emerged earlier today that the World Cup winner had been told in front of his clubmates that he would never captain the team again following his comments in the wake of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mourinho refused to reveal the reasoning behind his decision and insisted that there had still been no fallout between himself and Pogba, despite their relationship coming under intense scrutiny both last season and so far this term.

However, the Portuguese boss has confirmed that Pogba is no longer the vice-captain behind Antonio Valencia following his side's EFL Cup defeat to Derby County this evening.

"The only truth is that I made the decision of Paul not to be the second captain anymore," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

"But no fallout. No problems at all. The same person that decides Paul is not second captain anymore was exactly the same person that decides that Paul was the second captain, myself.

"I am the manager, I can make these decisions, no fall-out at all, no problems at all, just one decision that I don't have to explain."

Pogba has captained United on three occasions this season, most recently during a man-of-the-match display in the Champions League win over Young Boys last week.
