AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso suggests that he does not blame Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck for trying to win a penalty for the Gunners in Thursday's Europa League clash.

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has insisted that he will 'not judge' Danny Welbeck after the Arsenal forward earned his side a controversial penalty in the Europa League clash between the clubs.

At a time when Arsenal held a 2-1 lead on aggregate in the last-16 tie, Welbeck went down inside of the penalty area after minimal contact from Ricardo Rodriguez.

Replays suggested that Arsenal were fortunate to be awarded a spot kick - which was converted by Welbeck - but Gattuso has claimed that he does not blame the England international for trying to gain an advantage.

The 40-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "In the same way a player can make a mistake, a referee can do a mistake.

"Even myself when I was a player, I would take advantage of individual situations. I'm not going to judge these things."

Arsenal eventually recorded a 3-1 victory in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium to progress 5-2 on aggregate.
