Svetlana Kuznetsova has moved to the brink of qualifying for the WTA Championships semi-finals with a thrilling win over Karolina Pliskova.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has endured a hectic schedule over the past week and only made the end-of-season event in Singapore after winning the Kremlin Cup on Saturday.

However, she has now registered back-to-back victories in deciding sets after she beat fourth seed Pliskova 3-6 6-2 7-6.

The opening two sets were relatively one-sided but the decider was back and forth, with both players squandering chances to serve out the match.

However, Kuznetsova controlled the tie-break and although she missed out on three match points, she took the fourth to triumph in two hours and 20 minutes.
