Empire State Building lights up in blue and white stripes for Yogi Berra

The Empire State Building lit up with blue and white stripes on Wednesday evening to pay tribute to baseball legend Yogi Berra.

The Empire State Building in New York City lit up in blue and white stripes on Wednesday night as tribute to baseball Hall of Fame legend Yogi Berra.

The 13-time World Series champion, who spent most of his 19-year career playing for the New York Yankees, passed away at the age of 90 earlier this week.

The famous building opted to honour the sportsman's memory by lighting the top of the tower with the colours Berra used to wear for the Yankees.

The former catcher, who is said to have been the inspiration behind cartoon character Yogi Bear, won three Most Valuable Player awards in his career.
