Stoke City sign teenage defender Ryan Sweeney from promoted League One side AFC Wimbledon on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Stoke City have completed the signing of AFC Wimbledon defender Ryan Sweeney on a three-year contract.

The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-18 international has signed for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £250,000.

Sweeney, born in Kingston-upon-Thames, made his Dons debut nine days before his 18th birthday in April 2015 and has made a total of 13 first-team appearances for his hometown club.

He told AFC Wimbledon's website: "Thank you to all the fans for your support and to the manager Neal Ardley for giving me my chance in football, I couldn't thank him enough."

Sweeney signed an undisclosed-length new contract with Wimbledon in March after being linked with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
