Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane will reject the offer of an extended break to instead work his way back to full fitness in time for the August 11 clash against Newcastle.

Harry Kane has vowed to be fully fit for Tottenham Hotspur's opening Premier League match of the new season, despite his World Cup exertions with England.

The 24-year-old finished the tournament as the Golden Boot winner after netting six times in the Three Lions' run to the semi-finals.

Kane looked fatigued in the latter stages of the competition, however, and failed to register a shot on target in England's last three games.

Rather than enjoying an extended rest, though, the prolific striker hopes to be ready in time for the August 11 showdown with Newcastle United, giving him less than a month's rest.

"I'll hopefully be back for the first game and hopefully I can try and score in August this year," he told reporters. "Not many people get to say they've won a Golden Boot in a World Cup, it's a big achievement.

"I said before coming into the tournament I wanted to prove I could do it in these big tournaments. The Euros [in 2016] was disappointing for me and if anything I wanted to prove to myself I could score at this level.

"I've scored at every other level and it was important I did that. I'm extremely proud. I'm sure I'll look back in a few weeks' time and take all these experiences in."

Kane was pipped to the Premier League Golden Boot by Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah last season.
