New Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker has insisted that his £50m price tag will not affect him during the upcoming campaign.

The England international became one of the most expensive defenders in football history when he completed his move to the Etihad Stadium from Tottenham Hotspur last month in an initial £45m deal with an additional £5m in add-ons.

Walker stressed that he had no control over the money spent on him, though, and insists that he is solely focused on improving under new manager Pep Guardiola.

"Whatever the two clubs decided was totally out of my hands. It was up to them. All I've got to do is prove to the manager and the rest of the team that my head is here and I want to go on and win things," he told reporters.

"That was the main reason I came here – that and working with the gaffer. He can pass on his experience and the calibre of players he has worked with with hopefully improve my game. Being at a club for so long, I was sceptical how it was going to be. But the lads and staff have been first-class with me. They have really welcomed me in and I am excited to get started.

"The gaffer likes to play the attractive, attacking football that I like to play. But we've also been working on keeping the back door shut and not conceding many goals. In the last two games we have really shown the quality that we've got and that we can really hurt teams."

City will face West Ham United in their final pre-season game on Friday before taking on Brighton & Hove in their first outing of the new campaign.
