Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino says that Virgil van Dijk's status at the club remains unchanged and that the centre-back will play no part in the Saints' next game.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has stated that Virgil van Dijk's status at the club remains the same and that the centre-back will play no part in the Saints' next fixture against West Ham United.

Van Dijk recently handed in a transfer request at the seaside club following a well-documented interest from Liverpool, but the 26-year-old has so far been denied a transfer by officials at Southampton.

The Netherlands defender is also thought to be on the radars of both Chelsea and Manchester City, leaving the former Celtic man with a number of proposed options should he be able to force a move away from the south coast.

"Nothing has changed - it is the same as last week. For that reason, I have nothing to say, he won't be available to play," said Pellegrino, according to Sky Sports News.

Van Dijk has made 55 appearances for the Saints since moving from the Hoops in 2015.
