Borussia Monchengladbach picked up their first win of the season in the group stage of the Champions League, beating Sevilla 4-2 this evening.
The result eliminates the Spanish side from the tournament, and leaves them bottom in Group D.
The Bundesliga side already knew that they could not qualify for the last 16 ahead of kickoff, but leave themselves in pole position to reach the Europa League.

The German side have made just once change to the side that started their previous Champions League outing, with Alvaro Dominguez sidelined with injury, so Julian Korb comes in.

The home side can't finish in the top two, but a win over Sevilla tonight would boost their chances of beating the Spanish side to the Europa League spot.

Sevilla have won only once, but that was a comfortable 3-0 win over tonight's opponents on the opening matchday.

It has been a disappointing campaign for both sides, with there's more riding on it for Sevilla tonight, and the Spanish side were the stronger of the two in the reverse fixture. 3 minSevilla are keen to get forward early on with Vitolo squaring the ball in from the right towards Konoplyanka, but the home side make the clearance and press down the other end, resulting in Raffael trying his luck from long range, but Sergio Rico quickly dealt with it in the visitors' goal.
5 minThe home side force a corner as Rami turns a shot from Traore behind, but the resulting set piece comes to nothing, as Traore's ball back in is easily dealt with. It's worth noting that there's a bit of light rain falling in the stadium at the moment, which is making the surface a bit slippery under foot, but it doesn't seem to be hampering either side too much so far.
7 minCHANCE! Rico is being tested by the home side in the opening stages of this match as Traore tries to drive the ball into the bottom corner, and it takes a wicked deflection, but the Sevilla stopper deals with it well.
10 minGladbach have started well, but Sevilla manage to get the ball back down the other end, with Kevin Gameiro weaving around Hordtveit to force a corner for the visiting side, but Krohn-Dehli's finish is lacking.
13 minSUB! There's a big blow for the home side early on as Ibrahima Traore has tweaked his hamstring. He tried to play through it for a couple of minutes, but he's struggling, so Josip Drmic comes on in his place.
15 minTraore had been making his presence felt in the opening 10 minutes of the match, so his exit is a huge loss for the Bundesliga outfit. Sevilla are clearly keen to make the most of their opponents' misfortune as they've been dominating possession since his withdrawal.
16 minDISALLOWED GOAL! Kevin Gameiro thinks that he has opened the scoring as he picks up a cutback from Banega before rifling it into the bottom corner on the turn, but the assistant referee spotted that the ball went behind before the cross came in, so it won't count.

Sevilla press towards the Gladbach goal again as they continue to try to break the deadlock, but Gameiro and Coke get in each other's way on the edge of the box, much to the amusement of the home supporters. Konoplyanka swiftly wins it back for Sevilla though, attempting to power it into the bottom corner, but Yann Sommer makes the save, while Banega is unable to reach the rebound.
21 minThe hosts have had a quiet few minutes, but they're starting to see more of the ball again as Nordveit forces a corner with a long-range shot, but Raffael's delivery back in is easily cleared by the visitors. Traore had been on corner duty before he was forced off with an injury, and Raffael is one of the team's top scorers, so seems an odd choice to be putting the ball back in.
24 minGladbach are on the charge again, with a high ball coming over the top for Stindl. The forward lines up the ball, attempting an acrobatic overhead kick, but it ends up going well wide of the target.
26 minGranit Xhaka has been pretty quiet in the opening 25 minutes, but he spots his chance from 25 yards out after Christensen wins the ball back for the hosts, but the looping finish is comfortable for Rico to take.
28 minCHANCE! Rico has to make yet another save as Raffael unleashes a powerful, low finish from the edge of the box following another quick break from the home side, but he holds it well. Lars Stindl wins it back a couple of moments later, and tries a similar finish from the same range, but Rico is ready for it again. The Sevilla keeper has been kept busy early on, but has reacted well to everything that has come his way so far tonight.

29 minGladbach make their spell of pressure pay off as Xhaka thread the ball through from the left flank, picking out the run of Stindl, who just keeps himself onside long enough for the flag to stay down, before slicing the ball past Rico at the near post.
32 minKonoplyanka tries to set something up down the other end as Sevilla look to hit back straight away, but his cross is put behind by Xhaka for a corner, which comes to nothing for Sevilla.
34 minKrohn-Dehli battles hard to try to keep hold of the ball on the right of the Gladbach box, but Wendt is too quick for him, and manages to win it back for the hosts with ease.
35 minBOOKING! Ever Banega picks up the first booking of the night as he catches Drmic with a late challenge.
38 minThe home side haven't created much going forward since opening the scoring, but they do get the ball in the box again as Drmic charges down the right before crossing towards Raffael, but Rami is there is flick it clear for the La Liga side.

8.32pmSo, Lars Stindl's goal just before the half-our mark separates the two sides at the break. The home side have certainly shown the more attacking intent so far, while Sevilla have looked a little sluggish. With just one goal in it though, there's still time for the Spanish side to get back into the match.
8.36pmIn the opening 45 minutes, there was little to split the teams in terms of possession, with the hosts seeing 51% of the ball. The German side have been much busier in front of goal though, creating 19 shots to Sevilla's seven, including eight which have been on target, while just two of the visitors' efforts have tested Yann Sommer.
8.40pmUPDATE: There's more bad news for Sevilla from Turin, as Juventus are leading Manchester City 1-0 in the other match in Group D, which would ensure that the Italian champions join their opponents in the knockout stage of the competition, ending the La Liga side's hopes of progressing from the group.

52 minThe visitors have a free kick in a dangerous position as a result, which Banega lofts into the box, but Krychowiak's header is well blocked by Sommer. It was a committed attempt from the midfielder though, and he got clattered by the keeper for his efforts.

Stindl stutters while trying to line up a shot from the edge of the box, but he manages to pass it back to the arriving captain, who absolutely thumps it from 20 yards out, but Rico's lightning fast reactions keep the ball out. The Sevilla keeper's palms will be stinging after that one.
58 minThis match is still really open, and it could easily go either way. Both teams are keen to run the ball through midfield, but Sevilla in particularly are struggling with the ball into the final third, while Borussia are keen to take their shots from the edge of the area, but just can't get the better of Rico, who is having an excellent game between the posts for the visitors.
60 minGladbach leave themselves wide open at the back, allowing Sevilla to push towards the home side's goal, but Gameiro lacks support, and is unable to take the shot on himself. The Bundesliga side quickly get back down the other end, but Dahoud's finish is well high.
62 minDrmic plays Raffael in with a brilliant flick to his right near the penalty spot, but the striker stumbles, wasting a golden opportunity for the German side to double their lead.
64 minSUB! The visitors make their first change of the night as Steven N'Zonzi comes on for Michael Krohn-Dehli, who has not been at his best this evening.
66 minCHANCE! Konoplyanka lifts the ball over the top to Gameiro with a nicely-weighted chip, setting up the striker to try to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle, but he can't quite make it.

68 minWhat a finish from Fabian Johnson! Korb plays the ball across to the midfielder on the left-hand side of the box, and he takes a touch before curling it into the top right corner. He was wide open, with Coke having lost track of his run somewhere in the build up, but it was a sensational finish regardless.
70 minSevilla get a corner as they try to give themselves the slightest chance to get back into this match, while Banega's ball back into the box is easily dealt with by the home side. Now that they have the two-goal cushion, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Gladbach dropping a little deeper to protect their lead.
72 minCHANCE! Rather than sitting back, Borussia Monchengladbach clearly want to make a statement as they're pressing again, resulting in Raffael trying to stab the ball in from the middle of the penalty area, but his shot is straight at Rico.
75 minCHANCE! Konoplyanka has a shot to try to cut the deficit for the visiting side, but his sliced finish it tipped clear by Sommer. The Gladbach keeper hasn't been tested as often as his opposite number, but he's pulled off some good stops this evening, including this one.
