Preview: Real Madrid vs. Leganes - team news, predictions, lineups

Sports Mole previews the La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Leganes, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Real Madrid recorded a 1-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League last time out as they looked to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Mallorca that saw them slip off top spot in La Liga.

Leganes's last league match was also against Mallorca, winning 1-0 to end a three-game losing streak and record their first victory of the season.

Real Madrid will hope to return to winning ways in La Liga when they host bottom-of-the-league Leganes at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Los Blancos beat Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League in their last game courtesy of a first-half Toni Kroos strike.

The result came after a disappointing 1-0 defeat - their first in La Liga this season - away at Mallorca which saw Barcelona take Madrid's place at the summit of the league table.

Despite going domestically unbeaten prior to the reverse in Mallorca, Madrid's season has been somewhat underwhelming, drawing two of their opening three league games and keeping just three clean sheets in nine La Liga matches.

The win against Galatasaray was also their first in Europe, having drawn 2-2 with Club Brugge at home and were beaten 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain before that.

Zinedine Zidane's side were scheduled to face Barcelona in El Clasico, but political protests in the city of Barcelona meant that the game had to be postponed, leaving both clubs one game behind the rest of the league.

Instead they play Leganes, whose first win of the season against the side that ended Real's unbeaten run was not enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

Leganes have amassed just five points, losing seven of their 10 games so far and scoring just five goals in the process.

A win could have seen them go 19th in the table on goal difference, but Espanyol also won to maintain their three-point lead.

Team news

Gareth Bale in action for Real Madrid on October 5, 2019© Reuters

Zidane is without Alvaro Odriozola after the right-back was sent off in the defeat to Mallorca, meaning that Dani Carvajal will keep his place in the side.

Nacho and Marco Asensio are both long-term absentees, particularly the latter after suffering an ACL injury in pre-season.

Gareth Bale is also sidelined with a calf issue sustained on international duty with Wales.

Leganes boss Luis Cembranos has a lengthy injury list to contend with as a number of his squad have suffered long-term issues.

Alexander Szymanowski, Fede, Rodrigo Tarin, Ruben Perez and Marc Navarro are all unavailable for selection.

Real Madrid possible starting lineup:
Courtois; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo; Valverde, Casemiro, Kroos; Rodrygo, Benzema, Hazard

Leganes possible starting lineup:
Cuellar; Rosales, Bustinza, Siovas, Silva; Mesa, Rivera, Recio; Arnaiz, Carrilo, Braithwaite

We say: Real Madrid 2-0 Leganes

Real Madrid are far from flying, but they certainly have enough quality to pick up what should be a routine home win against the side bottom of La Liga. Los Blancos will be eyeing a clean sheet as well against a team that have netted just five goals in 10 games.
