Newcastle United reportedly decide to join the race to sign Bordeaux forward Diego Rolan, who could be available for £5m.

Newcastle United have reportedly decided to rival Fulham in the race to sign Bordeaux forward Diego Rolan.

It has previously been claimed that the Cottagers are ready to push through a deal for the Uruguayan, who netted nine goals from 29 appearances in Ligue 1 last season.

However, it was suggested that the 24-year-old may take some tempting into signing for a club in the Championship, and he may well be given the option of moving to the Premier League.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle may be willing to meet his asking price of £5m as Rafael Benitez looks to make quality additions ahead of his side's return to the top flight.

Rolan has scored 37 times in 138 appearances for the French outfit and on paper, he represents value for money for a club who are looking to reestablish themselves at the top tier.
