Newcastle United and Bournemouth are both reportedly keen on signing Hamburger SV midfielder Lewis Holtby, who has previously had a spell with Tottenham Hotspur.

Hamburger SV midfielder Lewis Holtby has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for both Newcastle United and Bournemouth.

Holtby is no stranger to English football having spent two years at Tottenham Hotspur, while he also featured on loan at Fulham during that time.

The 26-year-old made a total of 55 appearances in all competitions and after three years back in Germany, it appears that he could soon return to the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, both the Magpies and the Cherries are hoping to sign the Holtby for a fee in the region of £5m.

Newcastle are on the look-out for quality additions after earning promotion back to the top flight, with boss Rafael Benitez allegedly growing frustrated with the club's efforts in the transfer market.

Bournemouth have already signed Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe and the arrival of Holtby would further strengthen a squad which will be targeting another top-10 place in the table.

During his time with Hamburg, Holtby has scored four times in 90 appearances in all competitions.
