Manchester United confirm that they have agreed a fee for Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.

Manchester United have confirmed that they have agreed a fee for Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.

The 24-year-old had previously signalled his intention to leave Goodison Park this summer, citing a desire to win major trophies, prompting a bidding war between United and Premier League champions Chelsea.

In recent days Jose Mourinho's side moved into pole position for his signature, with reports suggesting that the side had agreed a British record fee of £75m with the Toffees.

In a short statement published on their website this morning, United said: "Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed a fee with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. The transfer is subject to a medical and personal terms.

"A further announcement will be made in due course."

Lukaku is thought to be undergoing a medical in Los Angeles, where United will begin their pre-season tour of the US next weekend, with a deal expected to be finalised in the next 48 hours.

United captain Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, is thought to be finalising a move in the opposite direction, with reports suggesting that he is willing to take a pay cut in order to return to his boyhood club.

Romelu Lukaku gets fantasy points galore, especially as captain, after scoring the opening goal in his side's Premier League clash with West Ham United at Goodison Park on October 30, 2016
