Paul Scholes: "Sloppy" David de Gea a problem for Manchester United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that his former side will have "a real problem" if they persist with goalkeeper David de Gea.

Paul Scholes has again questioned the quality of David de Gea, claiming that the goalkeeper's "sloppy" performances are becoming a real problem for Manchester United.

Spain international De Gea produced another below-par display in Sunday's 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

Despite United's poor clean sheet record this term, the 30-year-old is still preferred to Dean Henderson between the sticks.

However, Scholes believes it could be time for his former club to change keeper.

"Yeah, [the clean sheet record is] not good enough," he told BT Sport. "We mentioned it before the game - I think that is the biggest weakness in this team.

"David again, so sloppy - it's becoming a real problem. You need to have confidence in your goalkeeper. Can you catch this short corner? He punches it into a really bad area."

Only eight teams in the Premier League have conceded more goals than the 32 United have let in this season.
