Jose Mourinho will be compensated financially if he is not appointed Manchester United manager in the summer, according to a report.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly negotiated a clause with Manchester United that will see him scoop a windfall, even if he is never employed by the club.

Widespread speculation of late claimed that the Portuguese boss has agreed a deal to take over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in the summer.

However, were the Red Devils to not fulfil their end of the bargain, Mourinho will be compensated financially, according to The Mirror.

The 53-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea last December.
