Ander Herrera: 'Manchester United cannot dwell on defeat'

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera admits that his side must quickly move on from their defeat to Real Madrid in time for the start of the Premier League season.

Ander Herrera has urged his Manchester United teammates to "forget" about their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid as they have plenty more trophies left to fight for.

The Red Devils missed out on the chance to kick off the 2017-18 campaign with some silverware, going down 2-1 to Los Blancos at the Phillips II Arena in Skopje on Tuesday.

United begin their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon with the visit of West Ham United to Old Trafford, while also having the Champions League to look forward to this term, on top of the two domestic cup competitions.

Herrera, who featured 50 times in all competitions last term, is feeling positive ahead of the new league season thanks to the improved squad depth.

"We have to accept Real deserve to be the winners," he told reporters. "But we can take a lot of good things from this game. The Premier League starts on Sunday, there is no time to be upset, we want to be contenders for the title and we want to fight for every title this season.

"Last season, we won three trophies which is very good, but we didn't fight for the Premier League. That's our aim for this season and we have a very good squad. We are going to play in four competitions and we want to fight for all of them. In every position, we have two very good players, so I am optimistic for this season and let's forget about [this result].

"I know it's difficult because it's a European trophy and that's important for the club. But now the Premier League, then the Champions League will come, the FA Cup and the League Cup. We don't want to give away any competition. We are going to fight for all of them and we are going to improve."

United have never finished higher than fourth in Herrera's three years at the club, but he has lifted the EFL Cup, FA Cup and Europa League in that time.
