Thursday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: Moussa Diaby, Jadon Sancho, David Alaba

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Thursday, November 5.

A frustrating summer transfer window has now closed with Manchester United having missed out on a number of their top targets, including Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils were busy on deadline day, though, bringing in Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, in addition to agreeing a deal to sign Amad Traore in January. Attention will now switch to other business they may do when the window reopens in the winter.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Thursday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

Manchester United 'were willing to pay £45m for Moussa Diaby over summer'

Manchester United were reportedly prepared to pay up to €50m (£45m) to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Moussa Diaby during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a productive 2019-20 campaign for Leverkusen, scoring eight times and contributing eight assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.

According to Bild, United identified Diaby as a possible transfer target over the summer, and the 20-time English champions were prepared to pay as much as €50m (£45m) to sign him.

However, the report claims that Leverkusen signalled that they were not prepared to sell the France Under-21 international due to his importance to the side.

Diaby, who has scored twice and registered one assist in nine outings at club level this term, has also previously been linked with Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.

The left-sided attacker arrived at BayArena from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019.

Hans-Joachim Watzke hints Borussia Dortmund are "glad" Jadon Sancho did not join Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that the German club "could have made a big, valuable transfer" during the summer window.

Jadon Sancho was strongly linked with Manchester United over the summer, but the Red Devils could not come to an agreement with BVB over a transfer fee.

Watze has hinted that the Bundesliga giants could have sold the England international to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side but are "glad" that they managed to keep hold of him.

"We could have made a big, valuable transfer in the summer, that's well known," Watzke told Bild. "But we're glad it didn't come to this.

"Of course, we will also implement transfers again in the future, because Corona is clearly throwing us back. Even the biggest clubs are feeling the effects of the pandemic, be it Bayern, Barcelona or Real Madrid."

"At some point you come to the limit of what you can answer for. You can even see that in Munich right now with David Alaba as an example."

Sancho, who is still believed to be a target for United, has scored twice and registered four assists in eight appearances at club level during the 2020-21 campaign.

The 20-year-old's existing deal at Signal Iduna Park is due to run until June 2023.
