How Manchester City could line up against Burnley

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for Monday night's Premier League clash with Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City welcome Burnley to the Etihad Stadium on Monday night knowing that it could be their final outing before being dethroned as champions by Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola's side ensured that fate would not occur this weekend by outclassing Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in their first game back after the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday night, with Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win.

Should Liverpool beat Everton on Sunday then Man City will be powerless to prevent them from clinching the title next week, though, even if they make it two wins from two since lockdown against the Clarets.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Man City could line up for the contest.

Out: Eric Garcia (concussion)
Doubtful: John Stones (ankle), Claudio Bravo (hamstring)

The one downside of Wednesday's comfortable win over Arsenal was the injury suffered by Eric Garcia, who was clattered into by his own teammate Ederson and subsequently required lengthy treatment before being carried off in a neck brace.

The news since has been positive, though, with the 19-year-old defender now out of hospital and feeling "quite good" - although Premier League protocols on concussion mean that he will play no part in this match.

With John Stones also an injury doubt that could present an opportunity to Nicolas Otamendi for a starting role alongside Aymeric Laporte, although Fernandinho filled in at centre-back before lockdown and so is another option.

The new five-sub rule allowed Guardiola to keep some of his starters fresh, with Riyad Mahrez, David Silva, Laporte and De Bruyne all playing 70 minutes or less, but there could still be rotation with games coming so thick and fast.

Leroy Sane is unlikely to feature given that he has rejected a new contract and is now up for sale, but Bernardo Silva could come into the front three.

Sergio Aguero only came on for a 10-minute cameo against Arsenal and so will hope to lead the line on Monday night, while Foden is expecting more regular chances in the first team courtesy of the increased rotation and his goal will not have hurt his chances.

Rodri could also come into midfield in place of Ilkay Gundogan, with Guardiola likely to make full use of the incredible strength in depth available to him.
