Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is reportedly closing in on a one-year contract extension at the club, having agreed to take a pay cut due to his injury record.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is reportedly closing in on a new one-year contract at the club.

The 32-year-old's current deal at the Etihad Stadium expires this summer, but all parties are understood to want to extend his stay into a 12th season.

Discussions have been ongoing between City and Kompany's representatives, and the Daily Mail reports that they are now closing in on an agreement over a one-year extension.

The deal would see Kompany take a pay cut as a result of his injury issues, which have plagued his career during Pep Guardiola's time in charge.

The Belgium international has not made it past 22 appearances across all competitions in any of his last four seasons with City and has been limited to only 14 so far this term due to a fresh string of injury woes.

Kompany joined Man City in 2008 and will be rewarded with a testimonial at the end of this season, having so far made almost 350 appearances for the club to help them to three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cups.
