Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward plans 'an overhaul of the club' ahead of next season, according to a report.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is reportedly preparing 'an overhaul of the club' in order to turn the Red Devils into title challengers next season.

United have struggled to compete for the Premier League crown since Sir Alex Ferguson departed as head coach in 2013, and it has been another turbulent season with Jose Mourinho being sacked in December and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer placed in charge until this summer.

According to the London Evening Standard, Woodward knows that he is facing a critical few months as he looks to appoint a new long-term manager, in addition to a director of football.

Meanwhile, the same report has claimed that signing David de Gea to a new contract is a priority for the Red Devils, who lost 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash last week.

Solskjaer is still seen as the favourite to become Mourinho's long-term replacement despite the defeat to PSG, while Eric Cantona has been strongly linked with the director of football role at Old Trafford.

United are also expected to be active in this summer's transfer window, with Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly seen as their leading centre-back target.

The 20-time English champions are back in action against Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday night, before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend.
