Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes suffers no lasting damage after firecracker incident

Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes confirms that he has not suffered any lasting damage after being hit by a firecracker during Saturday's Ligue 1 game at Metz.

Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes has suffered post-traumatic hearing loss but no lasting damage after firecrackers were thrown at him during a French league game.

The Portugal international went down after being hit by a projectile during Lyon's match at Metz on Saturday, before a second firecracker went off near him while he was receiving treatment.

The Ligue 1 game was suspended after 30 minutes and eventually abandoned following the incident, with the 26-year-old going to hospital for treatment.

Lopes confirmed via Instagram on Sunday that he had not suffered any long-term injuries, but the "acoustic trauma" he incurred will require treatment over the next fortnight.

Lyon, meanwhile, said in a statement: "Anthony Lopes will also need to overcome the psychological trauma provoked by this odious aggression."

Metz, who were leading 1-0 when play was halted, risk heavy sanctions which could include forfeiting the match and Lyon being awarded the win.
