Lyon forward Maxwel Cornet reportedly decides to reject the opportunity to sign for Watford ahead of next season.

Watford have reportedly failed with an offer to sign forward Maxwel Cornet from Lyon.

New head coach Marco Silva is currently in the process of reshaping his squad at Vicarage Road, and it appears that he has made an approach for Ivory Coast international Cornet.

However, according to L'Equipe, the player has rejected the chance to sign for the Hornets ahead of the next Premier League season.

The 20-year-old was only used on a rotational basis for Lyon during the last campaign, but he still scored 10 times in 51 appearances in all competitions.

Last summer, the Ligue 1 outfit handed him a five-year contract and he is seemingly keen to repay the faith shown in him by a club that he only joined in 2015.

Cornet represented France from Under-15 to Under-21 level before deciding to switch allegiances to the country of his birth.
