Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas suggests that a knee injury was not the reason why Nabil Fekir failed to complete a move to Liverpool in the summer.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has suggested that Nabil Fekir's proposed move to Liverpool did not break down due to injury.

Fekir was strongly linked with a switch to Anfield during the summer transfer window before it was claimed that a knee problem to the France international led to Liverpool backing out of the deal.

However, Aulas has said that he does not think that was 'the real reason' behind the playmaker continuing his career at the French giants.

Aulas told RMC: "I think it was one of the arguments that was used on the Liverpool side, but personally I do not think it was the real reason. At the final moment, the three parties did not find an agreement, but not just Liverpool and Lyon, who had had an agreement.

"There was a change of heart from Liverpool's point of view, as we were in a tight situation in that Nabil was about to go to the World Cup, we decided to finish talks. Nabil at the time was OK with all of that."

Aulas is now attempting to convince Fekir to sign a new contract at the Ligue 1 outfit.
