How Manchester United could line up against Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Manchester United head to Liverpool on Sunday seeking back-to-back Premier League wins to close the gap on their arch-rivals.

The Red Devils make the trip to Anfield sitting 16 points behind the their opponents - the biggest deficit they have faced heading into a top-flight fixture between the pair since March 1990.

United got their campaign back up and running with their biggest win of the season last weekend, cruising to a 4-1 home win over Fulham, but they fell to a costly 2-1 reverse at Valencia in midweek to lose their momentum.

Ahead of this weekend's huge showdown on Merseyside, Sports Mole looks at how the visitors could line up.

Possible MNU XI vs. LIV

Out: Victor Lindelof (hamstring), Alexis Sanchez (hamstring), Marcos Rojo (knock),
Doubtful: Luke Shaw (knock), Anthony Martial (hamstring), Chris Smalling (foot), Matteo Darmian (knock), Diogo Dalot (knock), Scott McTominay (knock)

Jose Mourinho may have rotated his squad for the meeting with Valencia in a decision that would ultimately come back to haunt him, but the Portuguese still has a number of injury concerns for this trip to Anfield.

Sanchez and Martial are both carrying injuries, with the former ruled out until at least the New Year, so Mourinho may have to use out-of-form striker Romelu Lukaku for the second match running.

There remain plenty of questions over Paul Pogba's place in this United side, meanwhile, and the Frenchman is expected to return to the bench after being brought in from the cold against Valencia.

Mourinho has already confirmed that Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young will start on Sunday, but his hand may be forced in other positions as Lindelof remains on the sidelines, while Dalot, McTominay and Darmian are all carrying knocks.

Juan Mata is another in contention to start, having been involved in seven Premier League goals against Liverpool, including in each of his last three visits to Anfield.
