Coman doubtful for Liverpool clash after suffering ankle injury

The winger scored twice against Augsburg but picked up the injury deep into added time.

Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman is a doubt for his side's Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday after limping out of their 3-2 win at Augsburg.

Coman scored twice to bring his side back from behind before David Alaba scored a second-half winner which helped Bayern reduce the gap to Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund to two points.

But Coman suffered an apparent recurrence of a left ankle injury deep into injury time, which forced him to hobble from the field.

Bayern coach Niko Kovac told Eurosport: "We will have to see what happened to Kingsley – according to the doctors, it does not look that good at the moment."

The Frenchman has already undergone two operations on the ankle, the first of which ruled him out of last year's World Cup and the second after a recurrence on the opening day of the current season.

Kovac, who admitted Coman gave his side a "a different dimension", admitted too many of his players may have had the Liverpool game on their mind as they conceded the opening goal after just 14 seconds.

"We struggled to get into the game," added Kovac on his club's official website. "I can't remember conceding a goal so early and that was very annoying.

"It was more clear-cut in the second half. Taken altogether it was a workmanlike, but deserved, victory. Maybe some of us had Liverpool on their minds – it's not good but it's human."

Augsburg coach Manuel Baum praised his side for the way they fought back from last weekend's dismal 4-0 defeat to Werder Bremen.

Baum told a press conference: "At the end of the day we're empty-handed, but the main thing is 11 players plus subs were out on the pitch and gave it everything."
