Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has agreed personal terms with Roma, according to reports.

The Belgium international left the Emirates Stadium in 2014 for Barcelona but has made just 11 league appearances for the Blaugrana in the last two seasons.

Vermaelen had been linked with a return to Arsenal but, according to Tuttosport, he is on the verge of sealing a move to the Serie A club for an initial loan fee of £1.5m.

The 30-year-old made 100 appearances for the Gunners during his time in North London.
