President Donald Trump will be discharged back to the White House later today despite ongoing speculation about his health.

President Donald Trump's medical team have confirmed that he will be discharged from hospital back to the White House later today.

The 74-year-old was admitted to the Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday having tested positive for coronavirus and has claimed that his condition has been steadily improving since.

Trump is believed to have had two doses of oxygen support after his blood oxygen levels dropped but in a statement on Monday, his team claimed that he had passed all of the conditions for discharge and all of his key signs are normal, including "a heart rate of 68".

In a Twitter post pre-empting the medical team's press conference, Trump announced his own discharge while also advising the American public: "Don't be afraid of Covid."

"I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M," he wrote. "Feeling really good!

"Don't be afraid of Covid. Don't let it dominate your life.

"We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge.

"I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

Trump has been administered an experimental cocktail of drugs following his positive diagnosis and will continue that treatment back at the White House.

The President's personal physician Dr Sean Conley refused to answer reporters' questions about whether Trump has been suffering any problems with his lungs including pneumonia, insisting: "He's back."
