Result: Walsall secure League One safety with point at Bradford City

Walsall will play League One football next season as their 1-1 draw at Bradford City on Tuesday night puts them four points clear of the bottom four with one game left.

Walsall have picked up the point needed to secure safety in League One by holding Bradford City to a 1-1 draw in Tuesday night's clash at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The Bantams began brightly as Charlie Wyke saw an effort blocked within the opening minute, but before long the visitors began imposing themselves on their opponents.

Dean Keates's charges went on to take the lead after just 22 minutes when Erhun Oztumer nodded home on the rebound after George Dobson saw his initial effort blocked.

Bradford equalised on the stroke of half time, however, Matthew Lund making no mistake with his head at the near post from Stephen Warnock's left-wing cross.

The second half began slowly but Bradford soon had their opponents under the cosh, with Wyke, Jordan Gibson, Timothee Dieng, and Shay McCartan all weighing in with dangerous efforts.

Walsall were able to hold firm until the final whistle, however, and the relief was palpable among the travelling contingent as relegation was successfully staved off.

There was joy for another League One team in Yorkshire on the night as AFC Wimbledon also put themselves out of reach of the bottom four thanks to a goalless draw at Doncaster Rovers.

Elsewhere in the division, Scunthorpe United confirmed their playoff spot, as well as dealing a huge blow to Plymouth Argyle's top-six hopes, with a 2-0 home win at Glanford Park.
