Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says that "there are no plans" to sell Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has said that "there are no plans" to sell Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Shaqiri, 25, has been strongly linked with a move to Roma in recent days, with the Italian giants said to have targeted the Swiss international as a replacement for Liverpool-bound Mohamed Salah.

Injuries have harmed the attacker's two-year spell at the Britannia Stadium, but Coates insists that the former Bayern Munich winger will not be leaving the Potters in this summer's transfer window.

"There are no plans to sell him," Coates told the Stoke Sentinel. "He seems very settled with us and towards the end of the season he came back [from injury] and did well. We are settled with him, too, and are hoping to see a good season from him next season."

Shaqiri has scored seven times in 54 appearances for Stoke following a 2015 move from Inter Milan.
