Protestors interrupt Queen's baton in Oz

A group of aboriginal protestors delay the Queen's baton relay on the Gold Coast ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

A group of aboriginal protestors have delayed the Queen's baton relay on the Gold Coast just hours before the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

The baton has travelled through the entire Commonwealth for the last 388 days - making it the longest relay in history - and is due to arrive at the Carrara Stadium tonight to herald the start of the event.

Just seven hours before the ceremony begins, however, a group of protestors - believed to be known as 'Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance' - formed a barricade and prevented the baton from progressing up the Gold Coast.

After having held up the relay for around an hour and having negotiated with Queensland Police, the protestors are understood to have relented and allowed the relay to continue, albeit on a significantly-delayed schedule.

The protest came just as Prince Charles and his wife Camilla touched down in Brisbane ahead of the opening ceremony.
