Queensland Police launch an investigation after a Mauritian athlete claims that she was indecently assaulted by her chef de mission at the Commonwealth Games.

Queensland Police have launched an investigation after a Mauritian athlete competing at the Commonwealth Games alleged that she was indecently assaulted by the country's chef de mission Kaysee Teeroovengadum.

The claims originated in a Mauritian newspaper, with the athlete in question claiming that she suffered "indecent acts" at the hands of Teeroovengadum, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper says that the Mauritius camp have yet to undertake any disciplinary action and the athlete is still planning to compete at the Games, which get underway on the Gold Coast on Wednesday.

A statement from the Commonwealth Games Federation read: "The chief executive officer of the Commonwealth Games Federation has been made aware through media representatives of purported allegations, however there has been no reporting to the CGF through the established village processes.

"The CGF has a close working relationship with Queensland police, and whilst we have been informed that no complaint has been made to the police at this point in time, we understand that they are conducting inquiries into the matter.

"We have the utmost confidence in Queensland police and its investigative capabilities. We will be making no further comment at this time."

Mauritius team official George Siniska added to news.com.au: "We've got the Australian ways that we have to follow. Whether guests in the country, we are here so we have to follow the rules here."

The island nation have sent a 54-strong team of athletes to compete on the Gold Coast.
